LinuxKidX is a educational livecd based on Slackware Linux. LinuxKidX has a gigantic list of educational softwares to children from 2 to 10 years old. This distribution is developed mainly in Brazil, and was born in Portuguese, but also a great support for the English version.
The idea appeared during the university project by students Alexandre Pereira and Robson Maniasso, after a research on internet found out that exists a few Linux distributions to children, so that appeared the idea to personalize the Slackware and create a Linux distribution to children with a friendly interface and with educational games.
The distribution has the suites, childsplay, gcompris, kde-edu and the graphics application tux paint to create pictures independent and also an advanced graphics suite, Gimp. Also the distribution has Google Earth and Amsn installed.

qimo !
Qimo for Kids
Qimo is a desktop operating system designed for kids. Based on the open source Ubuntu Linux desktop, Qimo comes pre-installed with educational games for children aged 3 and up.
Qimo's interface has been designed to be intuitive and easy to use, providing large icons for all installed games, so that even the youngest users have no trouble selecting the activity they want.
Q: How is Qimo different than Edubuntu?A: Qimo was designed to be a standalone home computer for kids, rather than a networked classroom computer. The interface for Qimo is designed to be easy enough for a 3 year old to use, without having to navigate menus or manage multiple open windows. Also, Qimo will also run from a LiveCD, and doesn't require an existing Ubuntu installation the way Edubuntu does.
Q: Why not use Sugar from the OLPC project?A: Sugar is a very good interface for the OLPC computers it was made for, but many of the design decisions and interfaces don't work nearly as well on standard PCs. Qimo uses a customized XFCE interface to provide a fast, lightweight, and most importantly an easy to navigate interface that works well with standard computers, monitors and keyboards.

We have launched a new kid's Linux this summer. Its name is DoudouLinux ( http://www.doudoulinux.org/ ) and its main goals are the following:
* be as easy to use as a gaming console
* provide as much kid oriented apps as possible (currently around 50)
* drive small children into mastering computer use from age 2
* be natively in kids language, we currently support 8 languages and provide 7 additional demo languages
* be simple for Dad and Mum too (no administration, no updates – it's read-only system, no naughty web sites – thanks to web content filtering, etc.)
Well we propose you to give it a try and let us know ;). Thank you in advance.
